Workshops are a fun way to learn more about crafting Rwandan-style.

Whether you are newly exploring Rwanda, gathering a group of friends or colleagues or wanting to learn something new, workshops are fun for children, teens and adults alike!

Choose a Classic Workshop or Create Your Own

Imigongo Painting


  • Learn about the tradition of imigongo paintings in Rwanda and their meanings.  Enjoy the guidance of an artisan to paint your chosen cow dung design using handmade brushes.
  • Full day: Create your own drawing, learn to apply the cow dung design and get expert painting tutorial.
  • 2-4 hours: Choose your ready-made design and focus on the fun of painting your imigongo.
  • Preschool through adults

Banana Leaf Cards & Décor


  • Learn to use the varied surfaces of dried banana leaves to create art.
  • Half day: Draw your own design, prepare and cut your banana leaves and create your banana leaf image on a greeting card or A4 sheet.
  • 1-2 hours: Choose a set of ready-made greeting card kits and apply the cut banana leaf to create your image.
  • Primary School through adults
  • Ask about creating your own personalized stationery or cards!

Tassel Garlands


  • Create a festive garland with a selection of sisal tassels on a sisal string.
  • Half day: Learn to use sisal fibers to create a set of tassels and sisal string, then create your own colorful garland.
  • 1-2 hours: Learn the tassel-making technique, then choose from ready-made tassels to string together for your garland.
  • Age 10 through adults

Traditional Pottery


  • Using traditional clay, create a pot, mug or your own work of art.
  • Day 1: Create your clay work of art and get it cooked in the fire.
  • Day 2: Return another day to varnish and collect your project.
  • Age 10 through adults

Beeswax Candles


  • Pour and decorate your own candle, made from all natural local beeswax.
  • Half day: Craft your own tiki torch from bamboo, then pour a beeswax candle to light your lawn or patio at home.
  • 1-2 hours: Paint a clay candle pot, then fill your pot with all natural beeswax to create your own candle.
  • Age 13 through adults
